Is Beta Alpha Psi a fraternity?
No! We're a nonprofit international honor and service organization for students who have declared a concentration in accounting, finance, business analytics, or digital technology.
Is there a rushing process?
No. Instead of rushing, applicants submit an application by the quarter's deadline and complete a short interview. See our Membership page for the full process.
Who can join Beta Alpha Psi?
We are open to students of all academic years and majors at UC San Diego and the Rady School of Management who have declared a concentration in accounting, finance, business analytics, or digital technology.
Why a GPA requirement?
Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization. By maintaining strict GPA requirements, Beta Alpha Psi has been able to cultivate an excellent reputation among professionals.
Why are there required hours?
Each Beta Alpha Psi chapter must meet national activity requirements. Members complete 21 hours per year (10 Professional Development, 6 Service, and 5 Reaching Out) and attend at least 5 BAP events each quarter.
Is joining worth it?
Yes! Membership in Beta Alpha Psi provides a large variety of benefits. You will learn more about your field that might not be provided in classes. It also offers opportunities to meet with professionals that are experienced in various areas/fields related to your major.
Membership Questions & Expectations:
When can I join Beta Alpha Psi?
Applications open at the start of each quarter. Fall 2026 applications are due Saturday, October 10. Visit our Membership page for requirements and how to apply.
A sash for graduation?
You must be an initiated member in good standing at the end of the quarter to receive your sash. Seniors joining BAP for the first time in their final quarter can receive their sash once they complete associate membership.
I am a freshman. Can I join?
Absolutely! We believe it's important to start early. Joining as a freshman gives you access to peer and alumni mentoring, experience at professional events, and opportunities usually reserved for upperclassmen.
What happens if I fall behind?
Attending fewer than 5 events in a quarter earns a yellow card, meaning you're inactive for that quarter. Being inactive for two consecutive quarters, or not paying dues, earns a red card and removal from the chapter. Dues are non-refundable in the event of removal.
Membership fee includes?
Your one-time $85 initiation fee covers lifetime membership with Beta Alpha Psi National. Quarterly dues ($25 undergraduate / $15 graduate) cover chapter events, professional programming, socials, and member resources throughout the year.
How long to complete hours?
Hours are tracked over the full academic year and reset each fall, but the 5-event minimum applies every quarter, so pace yourself. You can check your progress anytime in the BAP Attendance Tracker.
Are all events mandatory?
No! You choose which events to attend, as long as you attend at least 5 each quarter. If you're not in Beta Alpha Psi, you can join the United Accounting Society for access to many of our events. Non-members may be charged a fee or be unable to attend certain events.
HOW DOES THE CHAPTER COMMUNICATE?
Announcements, events, and opportunities are shared in our BAP Slack workspace. New members receive the invite link after joining.
